University of Maribor

The University of Maribor (UM) is the second largest and second oldest University in Slovenia consisting of 17 Faculties with approximately 1700 employees and 13500 students. UM researchers are engaged and established in numerous international consortia. The UM 2013-2020 Development Strategy directs UM towards a leading role in particular areas of a sustainable and socially responsible University as part of the Danube region, in Central Europe and Western Balkans. At the same time, UM is striving for excellence, integrity, interdisciplinarity and coexistence between education, scientific research and internationalisation within the cooperation with the companies.

Three members of the University of Maribor are involved into SRIP – Circular economy activities:

  • Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (also co-founder of SRIP – Circular economy)
  • Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
  • Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

FOCUS AREA

Fractionation and processing of whey proteins and exploitation of the residue for the formation of new functional foods and food supplements

The primary objective of the project is to exploit the potential of the whey, an unexploited raw-material flow of the food industry. We intend to achieve this by the introduction of advanced technological processes for the isolation and enhancement of individual whey proteins and the use of the whey residue to form innovative food supplements and functional food additives.
