ZEOS, d. o. o.

ZEOS is a national and non-profit common waste management scheme including e-waste (WEEE), waste batteries and accumulators (WPBA), and waste grave candles (WGC). It was established in July 2005 by producers of electric and electronic equipment on the basis of the EU Directive on waste electrical and electronic equipment. There are over 50 utility service companies, 1000 stores and 500 companies participating in the process of waste collection. They implement over 10,000 waste collections per year and send the waste so collected for further processing through waste collection providers.

With years a large part of their activities has become dedicated to awareness-raising which is of key importance to achieve good waste collection results. These activities have also been upgraded with LIFE projects:

  • LIFE+ 10/INF/SI/000139 »Slovenia WEEE Campaign« (2011 – 2013) in the framework of which an educational multi-media truck E-transformer was made, and in 2015, the project was awarded the prize Best of the best LIFE project
  • LIFE 14 GIE/SI/000176 »E-waste Governance« (2016 – 2020) – read more about it hereunder.

Both projects are co-financed by the European Commission and the Slovenian Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning.

The results of awareness-raising activities are reflected in the amount of waste collected which goes up each year, as well as in more efficient organisation of waste collection processes.
