Steklarna Hrastnik is a Slovenian company with almost 160 years of tradition in the production of technologically demanding glass products made from one of the world’s purest types of glass. Using our know-how, we manufacture a wide range of table and packaging glass products. The use of glass, our production material, dates back thousands of years. Thanks to its many outstanding properties, we simply cannot imagine life without it. One of the most important facts about glass is that it can be recycled an infinite number of times, which means zero waste and the
total circulation of materials. This means that products never reach the end of their useful life, making them a perfect match for the concept of a circular economy.

In our production, waste glass represents around 30% of our compound, which means that we use less raw materials. In addition, for every tonne of waste glass used, we save 300 kg of CO2, thus reducing the process emissions of CO2. With every 10% of broken glass used, the energy consumption in the furnace is reduced by 2 to 3%.

In recent years, the Steklarna Hrastnik business strategy has included and developed the concept of sustainable resource management and the circular economy. To us, this means protecting the environment and taking care of our employees and the local community where we work, while also increasing our economic efficiency. We are well aware that natural resources are essential for our survival and well-being. However, their consumption is increasing at an alarming rate. With this in mind, our company is dedicated to changing the way resources are used. Our corporate social responsibility includes raising awareness regarding the use of glass products and glass packaging, since glass is a part of the solution for the growing problem of plastics and microplastics polluting the environment.
